Art

The Regency period in England inspired a number of wonderful paintings and silhouettes, such as the ones I use on this site:

  • Latest News and Contests - Two Strings to Her Bow by John Pettie, 1882
  • About the Four Heroines - title unknown, but there is speculation that it is a portrait of Jane Austen when she was young; Ozias Humphry, 1788
  • About Regency England - Lathom House from Morris's Country Seats, 1880
  • Especially for Booksellers, Librarians, Teachers, and the News Media - a free piece of art from Victoriana.com
  • Fashionable ladies on the Regency England page - fashion plate from 1817
  • Silhouettes of the girls - Emily's silhouette is a modified version of one belonging to Persis Sheldon, who attended America's Deerfield Academy in 1800; Priscilla's silhouette is created using a silhouette font (she's the letter i); Daphne's silhouette is thought to be that of Cassandra Austen, sister of Jane Austen; and Ariadne's silhouette is a modified version of Daphne's (they are sisters, after all).
