About the Four Heroines
Lady Emily Southwell, Priscilla Tate, and Daphne and Ariadne Courdebas met at the Barnsley School for Young Ladies near Wells in Somerset, England, and graduated together in 1815. La Petite Four begins the story of their adventures in London as they make their debuts in Society.
 | Lady Emily Southwell
Birthday: January 15
Favorite Color: Black
Favorite Food: Strawberry Trifle
Favorite Dress: Gray-striped taffeta walking dress; I like the way it rustles when I walk.
Goal for the Season: Gain Lady St. Gregory's favor and join the Royal Society for the Beaux Arts, that bastion of the art world. Oh, that I might breath that rarified air, rub shoulders with England's elite, have my paintings exhibited
next to theirs! Of course, first I must rid myself of this ridiculous engagement!
|
Favorite Moment Thus Far: Chasing Lord Robert all over London and bumping into that mysterious James Cropper nearly everywhere we go. Hm.
Most Embarrassing Moment Thus Far: Having to run away from graduation to escape Lord Robert's machinations. And then lifting my skirts in front of James Cropper. Certainly not the way I envisioned making a first impression on a gentleman!

Priscilla Tate
Birthday: March 21
Favorite Color: The perfect shade of pink of a newborn rose
Favorite Food: Marchpane cookies
Favorite Dress: The delphinium blue ball gown I'll wear to my come out. You have been invited, haven't you?
Goal for the Season: Marry Rottenford, the youngest of the bachelor dukes, who's worth thirty thousand per year, you know
|
Favorite Moment Thus Far: Meeting His Grace and his personal assistant Mr. Nathan Kent, a very precise fellow with dreamy, er, efficient eyes.
Most Embarrassing Moment Thus Far: I make it a habit to do nothing that might embarrass me later. Stop snickering, Emily! |
 |
Daphne Courdebas
Birthday: October 21
Favorite Color: A good strong blue
Favorite Food: Pudding with currants
Favorite Dress: My military blue riding habit
Goal for the Season: Impress the gentlemen with my reputation as a true lady, just as Lord Snedley advises, not one who fences with fireplace pokers or races through the park on her thoroughbred. And I will deny I ever did those things!
|
Favorite Moment Thus Far: Following Lord Robert about St. James's. Purely as a chaperon for my sister, you understand. She would get out of the coach. He went to a haberdasher, a tailor, and a perfumery. Who knew gentlemen needed perfume?
Most Embarrassing Moment Thus Far: Learning the true identity of Lord Snedley, whose etiquette book I had quite devoured. To think I used to worship that man! |
 |
Ariadne Courdebas
Birthday: December 25
Favorite Color: A delicate periwinkle
Favorite Food: Apricot tarts
Favorite Dress: My ballgown for Priscilla's come out, but don't you dare tell Mother!
Goal for the Season: Distinguish myself from Daphne and embolden myself to speak to gentlemen as easily as I write
|
Favorite Moment Thus Far: Choosing my own dress for the ball. Madam Levasard outdid herself. It is quite the most magnificent creation of emerald and black lace. "The very stuff of dreams and shadows." Oh, wait - is Mother reading?
Most Embarrassing Moment Thus Far: Spilling my drink down the front of my hideous white gown at Lady Emily's engagement dinner with no less than three handsome gentlemen looking on, even if one was an unconscionable scoundrel. |
